Joint Mobile Computing Solution by Psion Teklogix and Integrators Helps Rail Crews Get to Work on Time

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 18, 2006) -

Psion Teklogix' Rugged WORKABOUT PRO S Device helping to track and improve RailCrewXpress' transportation fleet performance

Psion Teklogix (LSE:PON), a global provider of solutions for mobile computing, wireless data collection, imaging and RFID, is pleased to announce that RailCrewXpress, an industry leader in the transport of train crews for America's railways, has selected a joint mobile computing solution developed by Psion Teklogix, MobileDataforce and Wireless Matrix for its fleet of transport vehicles in the U.S. The new rugged system enables RailCrewXpress to record the location and transportation activity of the company's vehicle fleet in real-time.

RailCrewXpress handles crew transportation needs for a number of the U.S. Class 1 railways, including crew pick ups, transport to and from trains, and in-yard crew transport. With its new joint mobile computing solution, RailCrewXpress has complete visibility into the location of its fleet at all times.

"The railway industry is challenged by a growing marketplace, a limited amount of infrastructure and increased scheduling demands so it is critical we guarantee to our customers that their rail crews will always arrive on time," said Scott Boyes, president and CEO, RailCrewXpress. "The new mobile computing solution will give us the up-to-minute location information and improved fleet tracking accuracy needed to provide the best service available. This will help us become "best-in-class" in our ability to meet the needs our railway customers."

RailCrewXpress will be using a WORKABOUT PRO S mobile computing device mounted in the vehicle along with MobileDataforce's PointSync™ enterprise mobile software. The software allows the WORKABOUT PRO S device to capture and synch data back to RailCrewXpress' main dispatch operations located in Canada. In addition, each vehicle is mounted with a Mobile Base Station 2 (MBS2) from Wireless Matrix. The MBS2 allows users to communicate via multiple networks, including terrestrial GPRS, satellite, and wireless LAN via 802.11b. The unit also provides for GPS tracking and utilizes Wireless Matrix's Bandwidth Steering service for transmission of large data files.

"RailCrewXpress required a powerful, flexible and rugged mobile computing solution to manage the location of its vehicle fleet across the U.S.," said Rob Douglas, president, Psion Teklogix Americas. "Together with market leading partners MobileDataforce and Wireless Matrix, we are providing a tailor-made mobile computing solution designed to meet RailCrewXpress' ever evolving needs."

Built on Psion Teklogix' Windows CE .NET platform, the WORKABOUT PRO S is ergonomic and compact. The mobile computing device offers a range of simultaneously supported radio options including WWAN (GSM/GPRS, CDMA), WPAN (Bluetooth) and WLAN (802.11b). As well, the WORKABOUT PRO S has an IP54 rating and can withstand multiple drops from four feet to concrete.

"We are thrilled to have helped bring such an innovative mobile computing solution to market," said Roger Newby, vice president business development, MobileDataforce. "We took advantage of the combined expertise of Psion Teklogix and Wireless Matrix during this venture, and we look forward to helping RailCrewXpress realize the benefits of this new solution."

The implementation of this joint solution is currently in progress, and it is expected to be complete by January 2006.

"We are proud to be a key component of the RailCrewXpress solution," said Jim Reed, director, partner marketing, Wireless Matrix. "Our three organizations are committed to bringing a best-of-breed, real-time fleet management system to RailCrewExpress."
