Joint Statement by the American Chemistry Council and the National Association of Chemical Distributors on Enhancing Safety and Industry Performance

SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwired - November 19, 2014) - Today, the American Chemistry Council (ACC) and the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) stressing the importance of implementation of their mutual industry performance programs, namely Responsible Care and Responsible Distribution. Both programs are membership requirements and require third party verification. The MOU stressed the associations' willingness to work together through these programs to share best practices, systems and performance metrics, and increase collaboration on industry events.

In conjunction with the signing, ACC and NACD issued the following statement:

"ACC and NACD share a unique relationship that surpasses the usual association liaison. Our two organizations are proud to cooperate with one another to advance Responsible Care and Responsible Distribution and their principles within our growing industry. By working together, we are better poised to take advantage of opportunities and address challenges facing the chemical industry.

"We have much in common as our members work to produce and distribute products in the safest and most secure methods possible. Enhancing relationships between manufacturers and distributors helps ensure seamless product management and ultimately improved performance.

"Most importantly, our members share the commitment that continuous improvement in environment, health, safety, and security is imperative in an ever changing industry. ACC and NACD will continue to promote the value of third party verification to chemical companies across the country and this MOU demonstrates the importance of collaboration to reach out to companies in the industry who can benefit from management systems like Responsible Distribution and Responsible Care.

"The MOU is a testament to the integrity of our associations' performance programs and demonstrates to customers, employees, regulatory authorities, and the public that these mutual programs are synergistic, improve performance, and are growing in numbers across the United States."
