Josh Groban Breaks Onto TicketNews' March Rankings

VERNON, CT--(Marketwire - April 6, 2011) - Singer Josh Groban made an impressive debut in TicketNews' exclusive event rankings for the start of spring, as shown in the monthly numbers compiled from March 1-31.

Groban debuted on the March rankings in fourth place, making him the top new entry for the month. He will embark on his 60-date Straight To You Tour on May 12 in New Orleans, LA, and continue with limited breaks through a November 14 performance at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The classical-pop vocalist wasn't the only new entry in the March Top Ten. Jimmy Buffett and Celine Dion also showed their ticket selling power, with respective finishes in sixth and seventh place. Buffett begins his Welcome to Fin-Land Tour on April 16 in Tampa, FL, while Dion began her new Las Vegas residency at the Colosseum on March 15.

March wasn't as kind to other big-name artists, who fell in the rankings. Rock icons Bon Jovi experienced the most radical shift, ending the month at the bottom of the Top 20 after an impressive No. 5 finish in February. Also affected were tours for Lil Wayne (down seven places to No. 9), Glee Live! (down to No. 11 from its No. 4 debut), and Katy Perry (down 10 places to No. 17).

Events to Watch for April:

  • Despite the Major League Baseball season starting in March, only the New York Yankees finished in the Top 20 events. April could see more MLB teams to break into the rankings.
  • "The Book of Mormon," a new musical from the creators of "South Park," opened March 24 on Broadway and immediately jumped onto TicketNews' Top 10 weekly event rankings. The comedy is getting rave reviews and may have a strong showing in April's month-end rankings.
