Joyent Doubles Down on Support for the Node.js Community

Introduces Certified Docker Images for Node.js, Enterprise-Grade Support, and Launches Node.js Incubator Program, Reinforcing Backing for Fast-Growing Open Source Project

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Feb 10, 2015) - Joyent, Inc., the container infrastructure company and corporate steward for the Node.js open source project, today announced the launch of certified Docker container images for Node.js, increased Node.js support for the enterprise and the creation of the Node.js Incubator Program. With these developments, Joyent cements its commitment to ongoing support for the growing Node.js ecosystem, which is now used by tens of thousands of organizations in over 200 countries. Joyent also announced today the creation of an independent Node.js Foundation in partnership with IBM, Microsoft, PayPal, Fidelity and The Linux Foundation.

Since Node.js was first created and published in 2009, Joyent has been committed to supporting the community of contributors that took Node.js from beloved developer tool to enterprise-grade framework of choice. Joyent's level of hands-on support will only grow as Node.js continues to flourish.

"At Joyent, we've spent the last five-plus years working alongside the greater Node.js community to help grow it into what it is today," Joyent CEO Scott Hammond said. "As the runtime transitions into a formal foundation, we're only increasing our support. We firmly believe the Node.js platform is poised to change the way organizations build applications across industries at a massive scale. We'll be here to make sure that happens."

Certified Node.js Image for Docker

Docker images are rapidly emerging as an important deployment option for Node.js applications. To ensure developers are using up-to-date and optimized Docker images to power their Node.js applications, Joyent is announcing that it will maintain, going forward, the official Node.js image for Docker.

"We're thrilled to have Joyent join the Docker Hub Official Repos program as a contributor," said Nick Stinemates, Docker Head of Business Development and Technical Alliances. "Official Repos provide great base images for applications, so developers and system administrators can do what they do best: focus on building new features and functionality, while minimizing repetitive work. The official repo and the developers who use it will benefit from Joyent's years of experience contributing to, supporting and running Node.js in production."

The certified Node.js image for Docker can be found in the Official Repo on DockerHub. It will also be available for download from Nodejs.org and the Joyent Public Cloud Marketplace, and will ship as a default image with Joyent SmartDataCenter
