J.P. Morgan Is No. 1 in Europe Fixed-Income Research; Tops Fourth Institutional Investor Survey in Six Months

Victory Follows Triumphs in Latin American Equities, U.S. Equities and U.S. Fixed-Income

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - February 1, 2011) - J.P. Morgan provides the best coverage of European debt markets, according to participants in Institutional Investor's 2011 All-Europe Fixed-Income Research Team survey. The firm has finished in first place in four of the five Institutional Investor research team rankings published since September.

That month, J.P. Morgan shared top honors with BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research on the Latin America Research Team and was the undisputed leader of the All-America Fixed-Income Research Team. (In that issue's other survey, the All-Brazil Research Team, J.P. Morgan finished fourth.) Then, in October, the firm finished in first place for the first time on the All-America Research Team.

In the European survey, J.P. Morgan wins 12 positions, including seven teams ranked No. 1 in their sectors. Deutsche Bank claims second place, with six positions; it has five teams in first place. Barclays Capital and Morgan Stanley tie for third.

"Our commitment to publishing research is as strong as ever," says Terrence Belton, J.P. Morgan's global head of fixed-income strategy.

As default risk in Europe's sovereign markets catapulted to the top of the list of investor concerns, Belton adds, his department benefited from increased collaboration among its analysts who specialize in emerging markets, interest rates and macroeconomic issues. "Having that breadth of coverage has been really important over the last year or two," he says.

Meanwhile, BarCap is among the firms adding fixed-income analysts.

"We saw tremendous issuance in 2010 in Europe, and we expect that to continue," says Eric Miller, head of global credit research operations. "We've taken a very direct strategy to ensure that we have the best credit strategists and analysts on the ground in the region."
