JTAG Technologies Wins Best-in-Test® Award for TapCommunicator™

Test & Measurement World's Editors Select the Year's Innovative Products

STEVENSVILLE, MD -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 10, 2007 -- JTAG Technologies proudly announces that its unique TapCommunicator™ product has won a prestigious Best-In-Test® award in the annual selection of the test and measurement industry's leading products.

Judged by the editors of Test and Measurement World, the Best-In-Test awards are viewed as the definitive accolade within the test and production arena. "Boundary scan is becoming indispensable in the test of dense printed-circuit boards, and JTAG TapCommunicator, or TapComm, is a significant enhancement to boundary-scan technology that uses ubiquitous Ethernet to channel boundary-scan test vectors and device-programming data over unlimited distances to a target system," said Rick Nelson, chief editor of Test & Measurement World. The Best-in-Test panel seeks to highlight the products they believe to be particularly innovative or useful. This year they narrowed the field from scores of deserving products that were introduced between November 1, 2005, and October 31, 2006 and among their selections for 2007 Best-in-Test was JTAG Technologies for its new TapCommunicator.

TapCommunicator unlocks the power of boundary-scan (IEEE Std 1149.1) for long-distance, high-fidelity transmission of test vectors and device programming data by means of existing communication links. In standard form, it uses gigabit Ethernet as the communications link; however this may be customized to suit any protocol and can even be supplied as an IP soft-core for embedded applications.

In the past, boundary-scan applications have had to run in close proximity to the target or unit-under-test (UUT). Even while supporting widespread corporate test topologies, it has been necessary to co-locate the boundary-scan controller and the target PCBs or sub-systems. Some compromise techniques such as manipulation of test clock (TCK) phase / frequency or repeaters have been used to overcome the distance restriction, but these approaches have often introduced limitations such as reduced clock speed and are only useful within a very limited, local range.

Applications for TapCommunicator exist in a variety of current and new arenas, such as:

--  Remote system control for in-service test and diagnosis, re-
    configuration or upgrade, even over difficult or impossible access
--  Environmental stress testing at extended distance between test chamber
    and target
