Judy Blume Celebrates the 35th Anniversary of "Fudge" and His Debut in "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing"

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - September 5, 2007) - Judy Blume, the best-selling and award winning author, celebrates the 35th anniversary of Fudge, who made his debut in "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing." This timeless classic is loved by both boys and girls and in 2002 was ranked #3 on Publishers Weekly's list of "All-Time Bestselling Children's Books" (all of the "Fudge" titles rank in the top 25 on this list).

Judy Blume is a household name and her books have influenced successive generations of middle grade, young adult, and adult readers. Her stories explore the complexities and tribulations that face children and teens as they embark into adulthood. She is the enduringly popular author of more than twenty books for young readers. More than 75 million copies of her books have been sold worldwide, and her work has been translated into twenty-six languages.

Just as generations of fans have loved the "Fudge" books, generations of Judy's family have inspired them. Thirty-five years ago, Fudge was inspired by her son, Larry, and five years ago, her grandson, Elliot, was the inspiration for "Double Fudge." Her wacky, loveable characters draw her readers in, capture their attention, and never let go.

In "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing," the first book in the Fudge series, Peter Hatcher feels like a fourth grade nothing when his little brother Fudge is around. Whether Fudge is trying to fly, or throwing a temper tantrum at the shoe store, it seems to Peter that Fudge gets all the attention from their parents -- not to mention getting away with his crazy antics -- and Peter has had it! Once young readers got a taste of Fudge and his long suffering older brother, Peter, in "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing," they wouldn't let go. They begged for another book, and then another, and another. Blume's fans became her inspiration.

In celebration of the 35th anniversary, the complete set of Fudge books are available with a brand new look in a boxed set that will thrill lifelong "Fudge-Lovers" while enticing a whole new generation of Blume Readers.

"Ever since best-selling author Judy Blume's 'Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing' was published back in 1972, legions of young readers have been caught in the grip of what can only be called Fudge-a-mania, an excessive enthusiasm for a small boy missing two front teeth named Farley Drexel Hatcher, a.k.a. Fudge." -- BookPage

"It is a pleasure to watch a talented author like Judy Blume consistently create books that reflect a remarkable ability for combining humor with a perceptive insight into a child's world." -- Publishers Weekly

"...Blume has her eye on the fine details of life, whether funny or frustrating. Her characters, neither wise nor foolish, always manage to cope, one way or another; it is Blume's laid-back, positive attitude that is her strong suit." -- Booklist
