July Conventions Mean Big Business for Jacksonville

Record Number of Groups Booked by Visit Jacksonville Bringing Millions in Economic Impact

JACKSONVILLE, FL--(Marketwired - June 30, 2015) - Jacksonville will be the host city for more than 25 meetings and conventions this July, the visiting groups and their convention attendees will create an estimated economic impact of $30 million in new revenue for our city. These meetings and conventions were all booked by the Visit Jacksonville Sales team and will take place at hotels and meeting venues all across the city.

"This month really shines a light on the importance the meetings and conventions industry has in our local economy. Convention attendees from all over the nation will descend upon our city and spend their dollars in our business, our local restaurants, hotels, transportation companies, stores, and nightlife venues. It is a win-win for the entire community in what has historically been a slower month for convention business," said Paul Astleford, President and CEO of Visit Jacksonville.

Out of the 25 groups booked by Visit Jacksonville for July 2015, 13 will stay in hotels across the Southside and Beaches area and 12 will stay in Downtown Jacksonville hotels ensuring visitors will get a chance to see Jacksonville's many attributes and attractions and spread their economic impact across the entire community.

Besides the obvious economic benefit of these large groups and events, some of these meetings and conventions coming to Jacksonville in July will also provide the local residents plenty of opportunities for entertainment, most of it free.

Visit Jacksonville's Sales team books over 400 meeting and conventions annually. The local tourism industry has an economic impact of $2.2 billion annually.

Visit Jacksonville measured the economic impact of each meeting and convention based on the number of attendees, the number of room nights and a formula that is standard across the tourism industry.
