June Housing Starts Down in Windsor

WINDSOR, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 10, 2012) - New home starts were down in June in the Windsor Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) according to preliminary data released today by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Builders laid foundations for 73 homes compared to 85 in June 2011.

"June was the first month since January 2012 in which there were fewer starts than in the same month of 2011," said Paul Tessaro, Market Analyst for CMHC. "The decline may represent a cooling-off in the pace of new construction and a stabilization of the short-run trend of housing starts."

June starts in the Windsor area included 61 single-detached homes, eight semi-detached homes and four townhomes.

As Canada's national housing agency, CMHC draws on more than 65 years of experience to help Canadians access a variety of quality, environmentally sustainable and affordable Housing solutions. CMHC also provides reliable, impartial and up-to-date housing market reports, analysis and knowledge to support and assist consumers and the housing industry in making informed decisions.
