Junior Tournament, Player and Coaches Clinics Highlight Upcoming Events at 2008 CIS FINAL 8

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 13, 2008) - In conjunction with Canadian Interuniversity Sport and Scotiabank Place, the host organizing committee for the 2008 CIS men's basketball championship - the FINAL 8, presented by Milk - today announced three upcoming events taking place over the course of FINAL 8 weekend in Ottawa.

Sponsored by Carleton University and the University of Ottawa, the 12-team CIS FINAL 8 Junior Boys basketball tournament features the top AA and AAA teams from across Ontario. All tournament games, with the exception of the final, will take place at Carleton University's Ravens' Nest beginning on Friday morning. With more than 30 non-participating CIS coaches attending the FINAL 8 tournament this weekend, players competing in the junior tournament will receive top-tier exposure. A Basketball Ontario-sanctioned event, the tournament's championship game will take place at Scotiabank Place on Sunday at 10:15 a.m.

More than 120 area basketball players between the ages of 10 and 16 will be on the court at Scotiabank Place on Thursday evening to take part in the Carleton Basketball Alumni Association's player clinic with Laurentian University men's head coach Shawn Swords and Carleton women's head coach Taffe Charles. Swords is an Ottawa native who played more than 100 games with Canada's national team, including participation in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.

The CIS FINAL 8 Coaches Clinic will take place on Saturday, March 15, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Norm Fenn Gymnasium on the Carleton campus. More than 50 area and school coaches will participate in the session, featuring three of the CIS'a top coaches: Eddie Pomykala (Bishop's University), Thom Gillespie (University of New Brunswick) and Peter Campbell (Wilfred Laurier University). The clinic will focus on transition drills in addition to both offensive and defensive concepts.
