Just Energy Foundation Partners with Volunteer Houston and Brookline School to Plant the Seeds for a Sustainable Garden and Future

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwired - October 18, 2016) - Through its partnership with Volunteer Houston, the Just Energy Foundation was delighted to break ground with the first-ever Just Energy Sustainable Garden at Brookline Elementary School in Houston on Thursday October 13th.

The initiative supports Volunteer Houston's Sustainable Schoolyards youth education program and complements Just Energy's commitment to investing in the environment while adding value to communities. The outdoor classroom cultivates an opportunity where children can learn about sustainability hands-on, and the important part they play as stewards of our earth.

Approximately 50 Just Energy staff from across the US and Canada were joined by Volunteer Houston representatives and Brookline teachers, staff and students to dig, plant and water, all the while encouraging the youngsters as they learned first-hand about environmental responsibility. The event was capped with an official ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday.

"It was an absolute pleasure to work alongside these young people and to see their joy and enthusiasm," says Amy Gasca, Executive Director of the Just Energy Foundation. "Not only are we making a choice for the environment today, we are cultivating and empowering our students to be the leaders and change makers of tomorrow. Going forward, we hope to duplicate the success of the Just Energy Sustainable Garden across more of Just Energy's markets, including New York City, Boston, California, and Toronto, among others."

"The Just Energy Sustainable Garden will ensure that thousands of elementary school kids have access to the facilities, resources, and progressive programming that they deserve in their education," says Ricky Graboski, Community Engagement Manager of Volunteer Houston. "This opportunity will foster the development of higher achieving and more fulfilled students, all while engaging the Houston community in continued volunteer service. The dedication and generosity of The Just Energy Foundation in turning the Sustainable Schoolyards concept into a reality is a powerful model for all corporations looking to make an impact nationwide."
