JustOne Database Sets the Stage for Accelerated Growth in 2012 and Beyond

Relational Database Innovator Positioned to Address Market Need for a Powerful Database Ideally Suited for the Cloud and Big Data

GUILFORD, CT--(Marketwire - Feb 27, 2012) - JustOne Database, the innovator of the first, true general-purpose relational database, is poised to fundamentally change the relational database market by offering a powerful alternative to traditional relational databases -- competing on price, performance, scalability and simplicity.

2011 saw several important milestones for the company in its quest to become the database of choice for modern application developers and organizations faced with the task of managing Big Data. Since emerging from stealth mode, the company has closed a round of financing and launched its first version of the product, JustOneDB, which is focused on setting new price/performance standards for transaction processing. In a future release scheduled for later this year, full support for broad-ranging instant analytics will be added.

JustOneDB features a totally new approach to storing and accessing data. With its unique storage architecture, it addresses the data storage architectural limitations of traditional databases head-on by orienting data by relationship rather than row (transactions) or column (analytics) structures. For the first time, the way data is used is not limited by the way data is stored. The result is an agile, general-purpose relational database that uniquely supports all workloads at any volume -- delivering exceptional performance on low-cost commodity hardware.

JustOneDB version 1.0 -- built within PostgreSQL -- provides a feature-rich, SQL-based transactional database, supporting diverse queries instantaneously and is available across a range of Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) providers, including Heroku and AppHarbor. Additional PaaS vendors will be announced in the first quarter of 2012. To date, more than 150 developers use JustOneDB to build, test and deploy applications in the Cloud.

JustOneDB version 2.0 scheduled for release in the second-half of 2012, will extend the database further to include native aggregation and joins, adding powerful and flexible analytics to the existing database. Like its predecessor, JustOneDB version 2.0 is neither an in-memory store nor is it dependent on flash disk or massively parallel hardware.

In the Big Data world, the ability for any relational database to handle billions, or even trillions, of records can be enormously expensive. Alternatively, NoSQL generally requires significant compromises on flexibility, features and performance. In recent client trials, JustOneDB was able to support billions of new transactions per day, retained for many months with concurrent fast query response -- delivered on a single, low-cost server. No other database can deliver Big Data so simply and affordably.

"The explosion of data and data-intensive technologies including cloud and mobile computing has put a strain on businesses, mandating an IT infrastructure that can quickly analyze and react to -- or predict -- rapidly changing business dynamics," said Kate Mitchell, CEO of JustOne Database. "JustOne Database is perfectly positioned to support the Big Data phenomenon by providing a powerfully simple, low-cost database that enables data-driven decision making."

JustOne Database was founded by an experienced team of executives with strong credentials in the data management industry; Kate Mitchell, CEO; Duncan Pauly, CTO; and Paul McCafferty, SVP Research and Development. In 2011 the company established an advisory board comprised of seasoned software professionals to help JustOne Database deliver the next wave of innovation. Members include Dr. Guy Bunker, former Chief Scientist at Veritas/Symantec, and Richard Cramer, Chief Healthcare Strategist at Informatica.

"If the JustOne Database storage architecture had been available when relational databases were invented in the 1970s, it would be the standard for all databases today," said Dr. Guy Bunker, JustOne Database advisory board member. "Rather than utilizing the age-old approach of throwing more hardware at the problems of database storage, access and performance -- JustOne Database has created a truly ground-breaking solution to overcome these limitations and, in the process, addresses the simultaneous transactional and analytic requirements of Big Data."
