Parks Associates Brings Together Healthcare Providers, Insurance Companies, Start-Ups, and IoT Solution and Service Providers at Second-Annual Industry Event

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 10, 2015) - The first day of the second-annual Connected Health Summit: Engaging Consumers concluded yesterday with a discussion on the need for clear and innovative payment models in new connected health solutions. Throughout the day, executives from Kaiser Permanente, Humana, and AT&T delivered the keynotes, focusing on the personalization of healthcare and its role in the Internet of Things. The summit continues today with the theme "Business Strategies to Advance the Connected Health Market" and keynotes from CVS Health and Cerner.

"John Mattison at Kaiser started his presentation by encouraging everyone in the audience to hug, which got a lot of laughs but achieved his goal of emphasizing the importance of social health in succeeding in this market," said Harry Wang, Director, Health and Mobile Product Research, Parks Associates. "John focused on personalization and consumer engagement, the key topics for the first day at the Connected Health Summit. Today we are hosting multiple sessions to examine the business models necessary for driving growth in this rapidly changing market."

John Mattison, Assistant Medical Director, CMIO, and Chief Health Information Officer, Kaiser Permanente, presented the morning keynote "Connected Health, the Plecosystem, and the Gift Economy."

Kristine Mullen, Humana VP of Wellness Strategies & Solutions, presented the keynote "Wellness 3.0: Creating a Culture of Wellness to Increase Health & Productivity." She explored how consumers increasingly have a financial incentive to engage in better self-care but need the tools to do so effectively.

Steve Burger, Area VP of Business Development & Connected Health, Internet of Things Organization, AT&T, closed the first day of the summit with a keynote focused on the factors driving the consumer-centric model in healthcare. He also discussed the role of service providers in deploying connected healthcare solutions within the broader context of the Internet of Things (IoT).

Today, Tobias Barker, MD, VP of Medical Operations, CVS/MinuteClinic, gives the keynote "Using Technology to Connect the Dots in the Retail Health Space." Mike Heckman, Vice President, Population Health Services, Cerner Corporation, will provide the second keynote "Connecting What Matters in Health and Care." The agenda also includes a special fireside chat, "Integrating Health Analytics into Business Strategies," featuring Sentrian, a remote patient monitoring company, and Validic, a leading digital health platform for aggregating health data.

"Our healthcare system needs to focus on providing connected care services that facilitate improved outcomes and patient-provider engagement," said Drew Schiller, Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder, Validic. "Technology is key; it is the future of healthcare. Events like Parks Associates' Connected Health Summit help shine a light on the speed of innovation in the connected health market and the implications of this fast transformation for patients, providers and health IT."

"Connected health means both personal and technological connections," said Dennis Upah, Executive Vice President, Enterprise Markets, Remedy Health Media, and a speaker at the event. "To cultivate closer connections and a deeper focus with patients via consumer outreach, the healthcare industry must continue to collaborate with and support patients at the condition community level. By enhancing relationships with partners who have a deep rapport with patient communities, the industry can foster human engagement to support patients beyond technology by understanding patients' emotional needs."
