Kaitlin's Wish-Lethbridge Girl Donates Wish to Help Others

LONDON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 6, 2011) - On December 30, 2010, Compassion Canada and the Children's Wish Foundation came together to present a very special wish to 17 year old Kaitlin Boyda of Lethbridge, Alberta.

For the past eighteen months, Kaitlin has been battling an incurable brain tumor. After two surgeries and chemotherapy, the cancer remains relentless and her health has continued to deteriorate. Just before Christmas, the Children's Wish Foundation contacted Compassion on behalf of Kaitlin with a very special wish request. Her wish was to impact others – she wanted to make a difference in the world through Compassion's ministry to children.

Compassion Canada is currently working on a large scale water proposal for 21 church projects in Uganda. The objective is to conduct water resource assessments and then implement the most feasible technological option to develop safe and accessible water sources at each of the projects. One of these water installations will be dedicated in honour of Kaitlin's wish. Barry Slauenwhite, President of Compassion, explains that, "This water installation project will make a significant difference in the lives of the children and families of the Compassion Uganda project as well as help the surrounding community by providing them with safe, clean drinking water."

Since the presentation to Kaitlin, a second donor has come forward to contribute enough money for a second water installation to be completed in Kaitlin's honour. "So many lives will be forever altered by the selfless and generous gift of one 17 year old girl half-way around the world. We will never know the impact of her gift this side of heaven," explains Compassion's President.

In response to the wish donation, Brenda Boyda, Kaitlin's mom explains, "We truly feel that God does not want us to build our treasure on earth but to make this world better because of our love for Jesus and others. We would be remiss if we let Kaitlin's story end in our house on Dec 30, 2010. Our goal is to inspire people to think of others, even in the midst of difficulties."
