Kane Constructions Standardizes on Aconex

Field Management and Project Information Management Solutions Used on All Projects

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA--(Marketwired - May 6, 2014) -  Aconex, provider of the world's most widely used construction project management software, today announced that Kane Constructions Pty. Ltd. has adopted Aconex Field and the Aconex platform for all of its construction projects. Kane is a privately owned commercial construction company active in all sectors of the industry both within and outside of Australia.

Over the last year, Kane has used Aconex Field on iPads, iPhones and Android devices to inspect a total of 12 projects for construction defects and then assign the appropriate subcontractors to correct them for re-inspection and close-out. The firm now also uses the Aconex platform and Aconex Mobile construction apps to manage project information and processes between different organizations for collaboration and successful project delivery.

Efficient and Results-Driven

"Aconex has proven to be very efficient and results-driven," said Stephen Theisz, project manager at Kane. "Our goal with every project is to deliver the highest possible quality to our client. We strive to be 'Defect Free at PC.'* Aconex Field provides an efficient platform to assist Kane and its subcontractors in capturing and closing out defects on our projects."

Specific Kane projects on which Aconex Field has streamlined inspections include:

  • Sunshine Hospital Acute Services Building -- a new four-level building constructed immediately adjacent to occupied patient wards, with minimal disruption to ongoing operations
  • Emporia -- a high-quality, eight-level apartment building in Prahran, an inner-city suburb of Melbourne
  • DHS Altona -- environmentally sustainable and affordable housing funded by the Australian Government Department of Human Services
  • Epworth Hospital Clinical Education and Day Oncology -- a clinical education and simulation center and oncology and renal dialysis units at Epworth Richmond
  • Epworth Hospital Pod 4 Early Works -- demolition of a three-level building and a six-level excavation in preparation for a new, A$120-million, fully equipped hospital in Richmond
  • Epworth Hospital Main Works -- the private hospital redevelopment mentioned above, which will include 250 car parking spaces over five basement levels and eight levels of hospital space, including an emergency department, an general intensive care unit, a cardiac intensive care unit, operating theaters, in-patient wards, and consulting suites.

Project Delivery Ahead of Schedule

Theisz added that for some projects, the efficiency and accuracy of Aconex Field have contributed to practical completion up to three months ahead of schedule.

"We use the product's QR codes to identify location, and then photograph and mark up defects on mobile devices," Theisz said. "Each subcontractor receives a specific list of items rather than a book of PDF files covering all project defects. Capturing the data electronically on site, rather than voice-recording it or writing it down for an administrative assistant to type up, improves accuracy and reduces the time needed to get the defects issued to subcontractors."

"Kane Constructions has been an important client over the years and provided valuable input on Aconex solutions," said Steven Brant, general manager of Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) at Aconex. "Kane's adoption of the Aconex platform, Aconex Mobile and Aconex Field as standards for all of their construction projects reflects the market success that we've had in ANZ and other regions. We look forward to helping Kane continue to deliver high-quality, defect-free projects to their clients."
