Kaohsiung-Made Food Products Shine at Foodex Japan 2015

KAOHSIUNG, TAIWAN--(Marketwired - Mar 16, 2015) - A delegation led by officials from the Agriculture Bureau under Kaohsiung City Government attended the Foodex Japan 2015 on Mar. 3 to promote Kaohsiung-made safe and quality food products.

The delegation including six young farmers took part in the annual food fair to promote the city government's newly-launched brand "Kaohsiung First Choice," as part of the government's efforts to help manage overseas markets.

Kaohsiung City's Agriculture Bureau has been actively recruited young people to become "young farmer" and launched "six-grade agricultural industry" program, which combines producing, processing and service to help upgrade agricultural industries.

The city government has encouraged those young farmers to innovate, to develop premium agriculture products as well as to enhance product's added value, giving agricultural products story and life, said Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu

In order to prevent the possible global food crisis in the future, we enhance agricultural products' quality and quantity by improving agricultural techniques, Chen said, adding that we aim to provide sufficient food supply not only for Taiwan market but also for global market.

Japan's House of Councillors Member Katsuhiko Eguchi, who has been long friendly toward Taiwan, said Mar. 5 that he was very impressed by the Kaohsiung City Government's new policy, which encourages young people to return to hometown for farming work.

The policy is in line with Japan's current policy that also encourages young people to return to hometown for working as a farmer, Eguchi said, adding that he hoped that the young farmers in Taiwan and Japan could share their experiences and views in the near future.

The mayors of Kaohsiung and Tainan, and the magistrates of Pingtung, Yunlin and Chiayi counties -- all members of the Democratic Progressive Party -- have attended the opening together.

The four-day exhibition is the largest annual food and beverage trade show in Asia.
