KARE 11 Debuts 6:30 p.m. Weekday News Program

MINNEAPOLIS, MN--(Marketwired - January 05, 2016) - Minnesota's Own KARE 11, the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN, is expanding its weekly lineup of more than 30 hours of locally produced news content. The recently unveiled news program, Breaking the News, will air weeknights at 6:30 p.m. beginning January 11, 2016.

Breaking the News is more than a name, it's a mission that allows us to dig deeper into the stories Minnesotans are responding to and care most about each day. Anchor/reporters Rena Sarigianopoulos and Jana Shortal are looking forward to this opportunity to push the boundaries of the traditional newscast format and really listen to and engage with the community.

"This is the place where you can do more than just watch the news. Now you can be part of it constructively," says Sarigianopoulos. It's a sentiment shared by her co-anchor. "You're going to be a part of the conversation, you're going to be part of the message," says Shortal. "Here's our chance to hear what you have to say as a viewer and really run with it."

Along with the launch of Breaking the News, several other programs on KARE 11 will begin airing at new times. Entertainment Tonight will air weekdays at 4:30 p.m., while Jeopardy! Fans can now catch a full hour of Alex Trebek's quiz show from 3-4 p.m. (an original episode at 3:30 preceded by and encore episode at 3:00 p.m.). Hot Bench moves to 11:30 a.m.

"Listening to our viewers and creating an opportunity for connection on the topics that matter most is exciting. At the same time, we want to be sure Jeopardy! and Entertainment Tonight fans find and enjoy their entertainment favorites at new times," says KARE 11 General Manager John Remes.
