GOLDEN VALLEY, MN--(Marketwire - Jul 19, 2012) - KARE 11 Television announced Eric Perkins as the weeknight sports anchor for the 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts. Perkins joins Julie Nelson, Randy Shaver, and Belinda Jensen at the anchor desk. He will also serve as KARE 11's sports director.
"Eric brings his definitive, pro-active style to sports anchoring as he joins the strongest weeknight anchor team in the Twin Cities," said John Remes, President and General Manager of KARE 11.

The new weeknight KARE 11 anchor team starts on-air together when Eric returns in August from covering the 2012 Olympics in London.
Julie Nelson joined KARE 11 in September, 2003. She was previously an anchor at KSTP, and was named "Best Newcomer" by Mpls. /St. Paul magazine only months after starting at that station. In 2000, she won a regional Emmy for anchoring. Nelson's also been named "Best Anchor" twice by City Pages. Julie co-anchors the 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts on KARE 11. She received Bachelor's degrees in Journalism and History from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
Randy Shaver co-anchors KARE 11 weeknight newscasts with Julie Nelson. Shaver won a regional and a national Edward R. Murrow award for sports reporting in 2006. He was proud to be inducted into the Minnesota Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2004. Randy is a graduate of Iowa State University and has been with KARE 11 since 1983.
Belinda Jensen is KARE 11's chief meteorologist and obtained her AMS Seal of Approval for broadcast meteorology. She has also worked for the National Weather Service. Belinda enjoys serving her community through involvement in the schools working to engage students, particularly girls, in science. Jensen is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology.
Eric Perkins is KARE 11's weeknight sports anchor and sports director. He joined KARE 11 in November, 1996. He is an Emmy award winning sports reporter and has gained the most attention with the segment called "Perk at Play," launched in 1997. Eric is also the lead reporter for KARE 11's Olympics coverage, most recently traveling to London for the 2012 games. A Los Angeles native, Perkins graduated from Pepperdine University with a major in Broadcasting.
