KARE 11 News Sunrise Welcomes New Anchor

MINNEAPOLIS, MN and ST. PAUL, MN--(Marketwired - Mar 23, 2015) - Cory Hepola has been named the morning news anchor at Minnesota's Own KARE 11 [KARE-TV]. Cory will anchor the 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Friday broadcasts of KARE 11 Sunrise, alongside current co-anchor Kim Insley.

Hepola comes to the Twin Cities from Comcast Sportsnet in Houston, TX where he was a sports anchor, host, and reporter. During his time at the network, Hepola was described as a jack-of-all-trades, anchoring nightly sportscasts at 6 pm, 10 pm, and midnight, as well as the weekly magazine shows Astros Bases Loaded and Astros Field Pass.

Hepola, who is married with one child, graduated cum laude from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. A Minnesota native, Cory is looking forward to returning to his home state. "As a kid, I'd fall asleep imagining myself as a journalist in Minneapolis. I followed my TV dream to stations in North Dakota, Washington DC, Montana, New York, and Texas. All of these experiences helped prepare me for this -- my dream job -- at KARE 11. My family and I are thrilled to be coming home to the state we love, surrounded by the people we love," Hepola said.

Prior to Comcast Sportsnet, Hepola spent 10 years working at stations around the country, including KVUE-TV, the ABC affiliate in Austin [2011-2012], and WROC-TV & WUHF-TV, the CBS and FOX affiliates in Rochester, NY [2008-2011], where he was awarded "Best Sportscast" by the New York State Broadcaster's Association in 2010.

"Cory is a team player with a dynamic and energetic style for our morning audience," said News Director Jane Helmke. "He is a dedicated, creative journalist and hometown guy who can't wait to get started and contribute to his community."

"In our search for a morning anchor, we were fortunate to find someone with the commitment and passion that Cory brings to the table. We're extremely excited that he'll be a part of the award-winning KARE 11 family," said John Remes, KARE 11 President and General Manager.
