Karen Wichuk Joins TEC Edmonton as Vice-President, Public Sector & Government Relations

EDMONTON, AB--(Marketwired - September 19, 2016) - TEC Edmonton welcomes Karen Wichuk as its new Vice-President of Public Sector and Government Relations. Karen brings over 14 years of experience with senior management roles in both the public and higher education sectors. Much of this time was spent at the University of Alberta, one of Canada's top research intensive universities, where Karen worked closely with former President Indira Samarasekera advancing Canada's science, research, and innovation agenda.

At TEC Edmonton, Karen will focus on a number of initiatives, including ensuring its strong regional fit with new federal innovation programs, working with the province to help ensure an effective innovation ecosystem, and representing TEC Edmonton on the steering committee of the Health City Initiative. In addition, Karen will develop programs with other institutional partners that promote Edmonton as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Most recently, Karen was seconded from the University of Alberta to the Government of Alberta where she served as Assistant Deputy Minister of Machinery of Government within Executive Council. There, she was responsible for providing strategic advice on the structure of government departments, mergers and programs as well as leading the project management throughout structure transitions. Prior to her role in Machinery of Government, Karen served as Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Planning and Policy within Executive Council. Before joining the Government, Karen was the Associate Vice President (Government and Stakeholder Relations) at the University of Alberta, a position she had held since 2008.
