Kathryn Bessie, EBA Engineering Consultants, Receives ACR Reclamation Citation

Reclamation mentor honoured for contributions

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Feb. 5, 2010) - Kathryn Bessie, EBA Engineering Consultants has received the Alberta Chamber of Resources Reclamation Citation for her lifetime of achievement in soil science, reclamation and remediation. Kathryn is highly regarded within the environmental consulting community, by industry and government.

"Kathryn's is one of the most respected soil scientists in Alberta, and she knows the business of reclamation inside and out," said ACR Executive Director Brad Anderson. "she's a rare combination – a person who strives to be a leading technical expert in her field…always adding research and learning into her projects all the while combining mentoring and education so that others can benefit from her experiences."

Ms. Bessie has more than 25 years of experience in soil science and regulatory program management in both the public and private sectors. An example of Kathryn's work is the development and testing of ecotoxicity limits for specific compounds referenced in Alberta Environment's Alberta Tier 2 Soil and Groundwater Remediation Guidelines and for residual hydrocarbons through the Petroleum Technology Alliance of Canada.

Kathryn's knowledge and enthusiasm for education and research extend beyond the scope of reclamation and remediation. Well known for her intensity, dedication, and hands-on involvement, Kathryn's passion for learning and knowledge also extends to training and guidance of many junior personnel in both the applied and research aspects of soil science. Kathryn goes above and beyond to provide personalized mentoring and training to all staff and individuals she works with. Kathryn's legacy is that she has developed competent people, not just qualified people.

The Reclamation Citation will be presented to Ms. Bessie as part of the Chamber's 74thd Annual Awards Banquet on February 5th in Edmonton.
