Kauai, Hawaii Resort Features Farm to Fork Dining at Culinary Romp Through Paradise

Kauai Marriott Resort Hosts Culinary Event October 11th

KAUAI, HI--(Marketwired - Sep 30, 2013) - From out-of-towners to local residents, the dining scene in Hawaii appeals to everyone with a taste for fresh, flavorful fare that draws from the land. On October 11th, the Kauai Marriott Resort is giving guests a special opportunity to not only enjoy a delicious meal but learn more about the people and places behind every item on the day's menu.

A Culinary Romp Through Paradise brings this Hawaii family resort together with Tasting Kauai, known for organizing one-of-a-kind culinary tours. As with its other tours, the upcoming October 11th event includes a farm tour, four-course lunch, cooking demonstration and two cocktails, with the resort's executive chef Guy Higa taking the reins in the kitchen for the day's meal.

After heading out from this Kauai beach resort, tour guests board a train for a ride through a working fruit orchard, where they feed sheep, goats and wild pigs; stroll among the trees to pick fruit; learn how to harvest sugar cane, see how pineapple is grown, learn the proper way to cut exotic fruit and then sample what's in season.

After the farm tour, guests will meet with executive chef Higa, who oversees the hotel's Kauai, Hawaii restaurants. Higa chats with guests as he prepares locally grown ingredients, including many from his own garden; answers questions and passes along some cooking techniques used in the industry. The menu varies, but could include dishes such as a garden salad with Lilikoi vinaigrette; plantation-style Kaneshiro Farms crispy pork belly; Kauai shrimp, Wailua herb butter and fresh pasta; and Kauai coffee espresso cheesecake with Poha berry sauce. The four-course lunch is enjoyed outside on the garden court.

The tour ends at Oasis on the Beach, a farm-to-table restaurant where Koloa Rum Co. will be on hand to talk about their small-batch, award-winning rum, and mixologist Joel Downs will create cocktails using Koloa Rum and fresh, local ingredients.

To reserve a spot on the Culinary Romp Through Paradise, call 808-635-0257. Tours are $140 per person, with proceeds benefitting the Salvation Army and Kauai Branch of the Hawaii Food Bank.
