Kayne Anderson Energy Total Return Fund Announces Its Net Asset Value at November 30, 2006

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- December 1, 2006 -- Kayne Anderson Energy Total Return Fund, Inc. (the "Fund") (NYSE: KYE) today announced its net asset value at November 30, 2006.

At November 30, 2006, the Fund's net assets were $806 million and its net asset value per share was $25.44 based on 31.7 million shares outstanding.

As of November 30, 2006, equity and fixed income investments were 86% and 14%, respectively, of the Fund's total long-term investments of $1.1 billion. Long-term investments were comprised of MLPs and MLP Affiliates (45%), Canadian Income Trusts (24%), Marine Energy Transportation (13%), Coal Companies (8%) and U.S. Royalty Trusts and Other Energy Companies (10%). At November 30, 2006, the Fund's total assets were $1.1 billion.
