Kayne Anderson Energy Total Return Fund, Inc. Declares Quarterly Dividend of 44 Cents Per Share

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 15, 2006 -- (NYSE: KYE) Kayne Anderson Energy Total Return Fund, Inc. (the "Fund") declared its quarterly dividend of $0.44 per share for the period June 1, 2006 to August 31, 2006. This represents an annualized dividend yield of 7.4% based on the Fund's closing stock price of $23.89 per share as of September 14, 2006.

It is anticipated that a portion of this dividend will be treated as a return of capital. The final determination of the amount will be made in early 2007. The dividend will be payable on October 13, 2006 to shareholders of record on October 4, 2006, with an ex-dividend date of October 2, 2006.

The Fund is a non-diversified, closed-end management investment company registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940 whose common stock is traded on the NYSE.
