Kayne Anderson Energy Total Return Fund, Inc. Increases Quarterly Dividend to 44.5 Cents Per Share

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- December 14, 2006 -- (NYSE: KYE) -- On December 12, 2006 Kayne Anderson Energy Total Return Fund, Inc. (the "Fund") declared its quarterly dividend of $0.445 per share for the period September 1, 2006 to November 30, 2006. This represents an annualized dividend yield of 7.0% based on the Fund's closing stock sale price of $25.35 per share on December 12, 2006.

This dividend of $0.445 per share represents an increase of 1.1% from the prior quarter's dividend. It is anticipated that a portion of this dividend will be treated as a return of capital. The final determination of the amount will be made in early 2007. The dividend will be payable on January 12, 2007 to shareholders of record on December 29, 2006, with an ex-dividend date of December 27, 2006.

The Fund is a non-diversified, closed-end management investment company registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940 whose common stock is traded on the NYSE.
