KBC Advanced Technology Introduces Petro-SIM Production™ for Midstream Industry

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - Oct 9, 2012) - KBC Advanced Technologies plc (KBC) announced today that it is introducing Petro-SIM Production™, a process facility simulator that is able to improve throughput in gas processing facilities in the order of 10-20% and decrease energy and fuel costs by a similar value. Large returns on value can be gained by operators, engineering companies and consultancies by modelling entire gas processing facilities including integrated production and energy balances, power generation and all the separation processes, utilising unique and proven advanced oil & gas technology. This new technology was developed in house by KBC and combined with the recent purchase of Infochem Computer Services Ltd. This exciting new product built on KBC's downstream experience and knowledge of asset-wide optimisation techniques will provide the industry with a step change in optimising oil and gas assets.

"Building on KBC's 15 year success with rich intellectual property for the downstream industry and Infochem's 30 year reputation with Multiflash PVT, Petro-SIM Production will help oil and gas companies to achieve top line performance and efficient design and operation of all facilities in their portfolio," said Andy Howell, Executive Vice President of Software. "Through a collaboration with the energy industry directly and through our successful acquisition of rich PVT and flow assurance intellectual property, KBC is pleased to demonstrate a number of unique oil & gas focus areas relevant to modelling for the industry."

Petro-SIM Production's unique focus areas include:

  • With the acquisition of Infochem in Q2 of 2012, for the first time, KBC now offers the industry a process simulator that can handle high resolution PVT for reservoir fluids and production fluids into the process facilities, with unique capability in reservoir saturation pressure calculations, CO2 partitioning, gas hydrates, chemical injection, mercury partitioning, naphthenates, wax and asphaltene appearance and deposition.
  • KBC has implemented single and twin shaft rigorous gas turbine models within the process simulator, thus enabling facilities to optimise their production / energy balances and the performance of rotating machinery increasing availability, reliability and return on investment. The gas turbine models are based on extensive research, further development and use within successful KBC consulting projects over the last decade.
  • Material balance utilities allow easy, one click determination of the distribution of elements (e.g. nitrogen), molecules (e.g. methane) or streams (e.g. sales, fuel gas) across the processing facilities, with automatic shrinkage and allocation calculations. This advanced user-centric design eliminates unnecessary spreadsheets and time consuming repeat work allowing simple tracking and optimisation of hydrocarbon through the pipelines and facilities for contract maximisation.

This latest addition to KBC's Petro-SIM™ family of products incorporates existing rich intellectual property in PVT, rotating machinery, fractionation and stream properties to offer the oil & gas industry a new vision and standard in process facility modelling.
