KCG Awarded BPA by Interior Department to Conduct Independent Security Testing and Evaluation of Minerals Revenue Management Support Services Systems

RESTON, VA--(Marketwire - May 10, 2011) - Knowledge Consulting Group (KCG), a Government provider for cybersecurity services and a provider of business strategy services to the Government market, today announced that it has been awarded a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) by a U.S. Department of Interior (DOI) Agency. Awarded under KCG's GSA Schedule contract (GS-35F-0448N), the BPA is to perform Information Technology (IT) testing and evaluation services of Minerals Revenue Management Support Services (MRMSS) systems.

"The MRMSS is a mission-critical system used by DOI's Office of Natural Resources Revenue (ONRR) to process the bonuses, rents, and royalties received from Federal offshore and onshore mineral leases -- one of the largest sources of non-tax revenue for our Federal Government," said Maryann Hirsch, President of KCG. "We look forward to leveraging KCG's expertise and best practices to conduct security assessments on the MRMSS to identify vulnerabilities and improve the overall security posture."

DOI's ONRR is responsible for safeguarding the MRMSS electronic information and communications infrastructure against security compromise. Under the agreement, KCG will conduct independent verification and validation assessment activities of the MRMSS' three primary subsystems -- financial, data warehouse, and asset management -- to ensure that they are secure and mitigate the risk of a potential security breach. KCG's specific responsibilities include:

  • System Test & Evaluation, including plan development, execution, reporting, and out-briefing
  • Extended Security Assessment to determine if MRMSS and supporting information systems are vulnerable to internal/external threats; the level of system exploitation; whether defense-in-depth technologies are properly configured; and if response time and methodologies are in compliance with Federal guidelines
  • Independent Verification of Corrective Actions Completion Performance Requirements so that ONRR can monitor the progress in correcting any deficiencies that may be noted during the security reviews

"KCG is honored to be selected to perform these vital services, and we look forward to working with ONRR to ensure the security and integrity of the financial, data warehouse, and asset management systems under the MRMSS," added Hirsch.
