KDDI Using Acme Packet Session Border Controllers for Centrex VoIP Services

Security, High Availability, Performance and Multiprotocol Support Imperative for Tier One Service Provider Deployment

BURLINGTON, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 7, 2006 -- Acme Packet® today announced that KDDI Corporation, the Tokyo-based global wireline and wireless telecommunications company, is using the Net-Net® session border controllers to meet the high availability, security and service assurance requirements for their wireline voice-over IP (VoIP) network. Utilizing a network based on advanced technology, KDDI provides high capacity, high speed services and solutions to business and residential customers. Acme Packet session border controllers have been deployed in their production network to deliver real-time, high-quality centrex VoIP services seamlessly and reliably from end-to-end.

KDDI, Japan's second largest service provider, provides a comprehensive lineup of convenient, premium services including mobile phone service, mobile Internet services, local, long distance and data communications services over a fixed line network.

To maintain their high standards for performance, reliability, and security in a centrex VoIP service offering, KDDI selected Acme Packet's Net-Net session border controllers from among several of the industry's carrier-class offerings. The NAT/firewall traversal capabilities and the VLAN support in the Net-Net products together enable a service reach that is unachievable with any other existing products. Security features such as access control, topology hiding at both layer 3 and layer 5, and denial of service (DoS) protection also influenced KDDI's decision to deploy Acme Packet.

"The addition of KDDI to our list of publicly announced renowned and highly-respected customers is further confirmation that Acme Packet's Net-Net products are the session border controllers of choice for tier one service provider networks around the globe," said Andy Ory, president and CEO, Acme Packet. "We have been supporting KDDI for over 2 years in their network for the delivery of premium, high-quality IP communications to their business and residential customers."
