Keep Grey Cup celebrations in bounds by driving sober

MADD Canada and #TAXI team up against impaired driving this Grey Cup weekend

Attention: City Editor, Lifestyle Editor, News Editor OAKVILLE/ONTARIO/MEDIA RELEASE--(Marketwire - Nov. 27, 2009) - As Canadian football fans gear up for the 97 th Grey Cup to be held in Calgary this Sunday, MADD Canada and #TAXI are encouraging everyone to make a winning play - leave the car at home if there's a chance you will be impaired.

"We urge everyone celebrating this weekend's championship game to play it safe by planning your transportation ahead of time," said MADD Canada National President Margaret Miller. "Arrange for a designated driver, take public transportation or call a taxi."

Getting behind the wheel impaired puts the driver, his or her passengers and every other person on the road at risk. Every day, on average, 4 Canadians are killed and 207 more are injured as a result of impaired driving crashes.

Just as the teammates in this weekend's game look out for one another, MADD Canada is asking all Canadians to look out for one another too. Do not drive impaired, and do not let family members, friends or fellow party-goers drive impaired.

"If you, or someone you are with, needs a safe ride home, take advantage of the convenient service offered by MADD Canada sponsor #TAXI," Mrs. Miller suggested. "Simply dial # 8-2-9-4 from any cell phone to be connected with a taxi company."

#TAXI is the Title Sponsor of MADD Canada's Campaign 911 program and is also a generous sponsor of the High School Multi-Media Assembly Program currently touring Canadian schools. The company offers a fast and reliable service which allows individuals to dial #TAXI (# 8-2-9-4) from their cell phone to be connected with the first available taxi company or the taxi company of their choice, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for the same price or less than calling 411.

"#TAXI is committed to safe and responsible behaviour, on and off the road," said Michael Sachter, VP Marketing of CellWand Communications, the creator of #TAXI. "We are proud to join MADD Canada in its efforts to stop impaired driving. When everyone makes the responsible decision and chooses not to drive while impaired, we are all part of a winning team."
