Keep the Trauma Room Empty This Long Weekend

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 17, 2012) - Long weekends in the summer are deadly. According to statistics from Toronto Police, during the Victoria Day Weekend last year (May 21-23, 2011) 594 people were involved in collisions in the City of Toronto. This does not include 400 series highways, which are patrolled by the OPP.

Due to the increased number of traumatic injuries, for trauma units across the country the May long weekend is the beginning of what is known as "trauma season", which extends from the Victoria Day weekend to Thanksgiving.

Sunnybrook trauma injury prevention expert and former trauma nurse, Joanne Banfield, will be available to talk about the risks of the Victoria Day long weekend, and provide practical tips to help you enjoy your long weekend and keep yourself and your loved ones out of the Trauma Room.
