SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - May 22, 2014) - Keiretsu Forum, the world's largest angel investment network, will host its 9th annual Summer Solstice event for women investors and entrepreneurs on Wednesday, June 11 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hanson Bridgett LLP in San Francisco, California. The Keiretsu Forum Summer Solstice is a "Call to Action" for female entrepreneurs and investors to encourage increased involvement of women in the Bay Area early stage venture eco-system.
Randy Williams, Keiretsu Forum Founder & CEO, said, "More than ever, the angel investor community is eager to attract women participants." He pointed to a Kauffman Foundation report that explains while "women own half of this country's wealth... [they] make up no more than eight percent of angel investors." Women investors are considered a largely untapped market that is critical to financial and mentoring support for new companies.
The event will include a networking reception, a guest speaker, and presentations from five women-led companies to a panel of angel investors. The guest speaker will be Betty Ann Boeving from the Bay Area Anti-Trafficking Coalition, which works on the front lines to train Bay Area citizens and civic groups in awareness and sustainable engagement to fight local trafficking in the region. The investor panel will include Keiretsu Forum angel investor members: Inessa Obenhuber, Monali Jain, Tammy Haygood, Shirley Gee, and Teresa Pahl, Partner at Hanson Bridgett.
"We live in the heartland of the investment community, Northern California," said Judith Iglehart, Keiretsu Forum President of the International Division. "Most professional women here are over-achievers competing in various businesses. For years, women were only too familiar with the concept of 'angel.' It's time they added the word 'investor' to it."
