Keiretsu Forum Angel Investors Spread Their Wings

San Francisco Angel Capital Expo Attracts Over 300 Angel Investors

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Nov 27, 2012) - Over 300 of the Bay Area's most active and respected angel investors attended the Keiretsu Forum Angel Capital Expo at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in San Francisco on November 15th. The all-day event featured 12 company presentations and 5 updates, discussion at the presenters' exhibition booths, and the "Most Valued Company" competition, which capped off the day. After the 12th and final company presentation, attendees voted and Keiretsu Forum Founder & CEO Randy Williams awarded Sword Diagnostics the "Most Valued Company."

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, Sword Diagnostics is offering technology to improve detection in biomedical assays and tests used in drug discovery and medical diagnostic testing. "I've really enjoyed participating again at the Expo and being able to share the great progress Sword made since our presentation at the last event in May," said Dave Dingott, CEO of Sword Diagnostics and the "Most Valued Company" winner. "The Expo has represented a great event to not only meet investors, but it also has been a great place to meet potential partners and network to resources that will help make us successful."

The two runner-up finalists of the Angel Capital Expo "Most Valued Company" award were B&R Liquid Adventure (Búcha) and First Sense Medical. B&R Liquid Adventure is a beverage company that, under the "búcha" brand, manufactures and markets live, organic kombucha products. First Sense Medical is developing FIRSTSENSE Breast Exam™, a revolutionary medical device to assist primary care physicians in the early detection of breast cancer, which is low cost, noninvasive and radiation-free.

"Keiretsu Forum members are actively investing," Williams said. "Angel investors at Keiretsu Forum have access to the best deal flow we've ever seen as evidenced by the top quality companies that presented at the Angel Capital Expo." In 2011 the members of the Keiretsu Forum Northern California chapters (East Bay, San Francisco/North Bay, and Silicon Valley) invested in 37 ventures. To date 365 ventures have received over $400 million through the Keiretsu Forum global network of 25 chapters in three continents.

Guest speaker at the Angel Capital Expo was John Muir, a Keiretsu Forum member and Managing Partner of Security Innovation Network. He discussed levels of risk on the Internet and investment opportunities in the IT security sector. The 2012 Grand Prize winning team, Hydrovolts, Team 5, "Ebb N Flow" from Camp BizSmart was also honored onstage. Keiretsu Forum has been a partner of Camp BizSmart and BizSmart Global since 2008.
