Kelly Educational Staffing(R) Names 2009-2010 Substitute Teacher of the Year

Terre Haute, Indiana Resident Selected From More Than 25,000 Substitute Teachers Across the Nation

TROY, MI--(Marketwire - November 17, 2010) - Kelly Educational Staffing (KES®), a specialty service of workforce solutions leader Kelly Services®, has named Norma Williams as the 2009-2010 Substitute Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Williams received the award for her outstanding performance and exemplary service as a substitute teacher in the Vigo County School Corporation in Terre Haute, Indiana during the 2009-2010 school year.

The award was announced as a surprise to Mrs. Williams in front of students, faculty and members of the military following a Veteran's Day program at Terre Town Elementary School. April Cottrell, account manager, and Cindy McDonald, staffing coordinator, for Kelly Educational Staffing presented the award to Mrs. Williams, along with Cinda Taylor, principal of the school.

"Mrs. Williams has a love of teaching that is evidenced by her passion and dedication to educating students," said Principal Taylor. "She is truly a model substitute teacher who leads by example and inspires those around her to do their best."

Mrs. Williams, who admits she is usually never short of words, was almost speechless when presented with the award. A resident of Terre Haute, Mrs. Williams began her career in Robinson, Illinois, teaching all eight grades in a one room school house in 1945. She has taught every subject to kindergarten through college-age students, and has also served as a dean of students. Mrs. Williams holds a master's degree in education and six teaching licenses from principal to music teacher. She retired from full-time teaching in 1987 after teaching 38 years, spending 25 of those years in Terre Haute schools. However, she remained active in the profession by substitute teaching for 12 years after her retirement, including three years as a Kelly Educational Staffing substitute teacher. She has traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe, and uses her first-hand knowledge in the classroom.

When asked about her philosophy toward teaching, Mrs. Williams explains, "I am dedicated to teaching and I believe in giving to others unselfishly. Although I demand respect from the students, I believe students need to be respected as well."

"Mrs. Williams brings a wealth of knowledge to the classroom and she demonstrates incredible enthusiasm and commitment to student learning," said April Cottrell, account manager for Kelly Educational Staffing in Terre Haute. "We are honored to recognize Norma Williams as the Kelly Educational Staffing Substitute Teacher of the Year for 2009-2010."

The Kelly Educational Staffing Substitute Teacher of the Year award recognizes Kelly® substitute teachers for their outstanding performance and service in the classroom throughout the school year. The award is based on performance feedback from permanent teachers and school administrators that Kelly substitute teachers receive on regular basis.
