KEMA Chairman and CEO Collaborates With Global Leaders to Advance Smart Grid

Pier Nabuurs Joins Panel at GridWise(R) Global Forum; Shares Insight and Learnings From Global Smart Grid Transformation

BURLINGTON, MA--(Marketwire - September 21, 2010) -  KEMA Chairman and CEO Pier Nabuurs convenes with worldwide thought leaders at the inaugural GridWise Global Forum in Washington, D.C., September 21-23. The Forum gathers thought leaders from the highest levels of government and the private sector for an international dialogue on the impact of smart grid on energy use, investors and consumers (industrial, commercial and residential), and the environment.

Nabuurs is a featured panelist for the "Learning from Others" session on September 22, 4:15-5:30 p.m. This panel explores adoption scenarios for the smart grid and its aptness to be revolutionary and/or evolutionary. Panelists will discuss challenges faced during past technology transformations, such as the computer, and apply them to the electric grid transformation now underway. Nabuurs will offer insight on the evolving European and global smart grid experience, as past-chairman of the European Technology Platform Smart Grids Advisory Council, and through KEMA's worldwide smart grid project engagements.

"The introduction of smart grids is the beginning of a system change," said Nabuurs. "It affects the business of the whole industry -- new players will come and others will disappear. Successfully navigating this unfolding change requires a common vision, a commitment to collaboration, and a clear focus on communicating and delivering value to all stakeholders. By sharing our collective experiences, lessons, and insight we can help advance effective smart grid implementations that help support a more sustainable and secure energy future worldwide."

The GridWise Global Forum is an international gathering, co-hosted by the GridWise Alliance and the U.S. Department of Energy, to discuss the enabling potential of a modernized electric system to address pressing challenges, including energy sustainability and independence, global security, and prosperity. KEMA is an active member of the GridWise Alliance and is a Silver Sponsor of the Global Forum.
