KEMA-Powertest Lab Receives UL Qualification

Third-Party Test Data Program Optimizes Utilization to Reduce Testing Lead Times and Associated Costs

BURLINGTON, MA--(Marketwire - Apr 26, 2012) - DNV KEMA Energy & Sustainability today announced that its KEMA-Powertest lab has received UL's Third Party Test Data Program (TPTDP) qualification, which enables the lab to conduct standard UL low-, medium-, and high-voltage type testing at its main U.S. testing facility in Chalfont, Pennsylvania. UL is internationally recognized and trusted throughout the business community for its testing standards and capabilities.

TPTDP qualification acknowledges that the KEMA-Powertest lab, technicians, and testing methods have been analyzed and validated to confirm that all standard UL requirements are continually met. As a part of the Data Acceptance Program, the TPTDP qualification process begins with an investigative technical audit to verify that laboratory operations include properly documented policies and procedures to manage standardization during the testing, recording, and reporting of data.

The TPTDP grants the KEMA-Powertest lab the right to conduct tests in accordance with IEEE and UL standards on gas-insulated switchgears, circuit breakers, and power transformers. Any tests and data sheets by DNV KEMA, in conformance to the standard, will be accepted by UL as if conducted at a UL facility. UL experts will then review the data and construction of the device and issue the UL mark only if the product is compliant.

The TPTDP enables DNV KEMA to

  • Conduct thorough on-site testing that meets standardized UL criteria
  • Offer clients increased flexibility to schedule testing and reduce testing costs
  • Reduce lead time for client UL certification

Paul Leufkens, president, KEMA-Powertest, said the UL qualification underscores DNV KEMA's unparalleled lab capabilities and its commitment to the utility industry. "By offering UL qualification within our lab, customers will save time and money and have more options for scheduling this type of testing. We continue to pursue capabilities that provide the highest levels of service and expertise to our customers."

Jeff Smidt, vice president & general manager - Energy and Industrial Systems, UL LLC, stated, "UL partnered with DNV KEMA to provide the medium- and high-voltage testing customer with the UL certificate quickly and efficiently. We look forward to continuing our relationship with DNV KEMA."
