Ken Culotta Named Head of King & Spalding's Global Transactions Practice

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - Sep 4, 2012) -  King & Spalding announced today that partner Kenneth S. Culotta has been appointed leader of the firm's global transactions practice. He had served as the practice's deputy leader since August 2011.

Culotta succeeds Philip R. Weems, who has served as the firm's global transactions practice leader since 2003. The group has seen substantial expansion under Weems' leadership, growing its global presence from just two offices to include lawyers in Houston, London, the Middle East, Moscow, Singapore and Washington, D.C. today. Weems will continue in his capacity as co-leader of the firm's global energy industry initiative.

"King & Spalding's global transactions practice has experienced tremendous success under Philip's leadership," noted Culotta. "In the last nine years we have built a full-service energy and construction transactions platform supported by talented lawyers around the world. We intend to continue expanding and strengthening our global offering, and I look forward to working with our great team to achieve the next level of success for our clients and our firm."

Culotta is a partner in the Houston office of King & Spalding and was a founding member of the firm's London office. His twenty-seven years of experience encompass a broad range of domestic and cross-border oil, gas and mining industry transactions and the unique public and private law issues involved in structuring, documenting and negotiating them, with particular emphasis on projects. While his portfolio is global, Culotta is a fluent Spanish speaker and has extensive experience in Latin American energy matters.

King & Spalding's energy practice is one of the world's largest, most experienced and most extensive. More than 250 lawyers across a wide range of practice areas make up the firm's integrated team. Of these, more than 120 are dedicated to energy-related matters full-time. The group includes individuals who have been practicing in the field for several decades, including former in-house lawyers for leading global and national energy companies; leaders of energy industry trade groups; and former managers, engineers, scientists and government officials. The firm's energy lawyers offer experience that spans every sector of the industry, from oil and gas to power and renewables.
