Kentucky Hospitals Tap UMF Corporation's Expertise in Efforts to Prevent the Transmission of Infections in the Operating Room

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - May 20, 2016) - Several Kentucky hospitals are including UMF Corporation's best-practice processing techniques, tools and training as a component of their multimodal intervention initiatives to prevent the transmission of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in operating rooms (ORs), which are among the most infection-sensitive environments in healthcare.

The Kentucky hospitals are Bourbon Community Hospital of Paris, Clark Regional Medical Center of Winchester, Georgetown Community Hospital of Georgetown, James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital of Harrodsburg, and Kentucky One Health Saint Joseph East of Lexington.

The efforts align respective Environmental Services (ES) staff responsible for OR processing with Chicago-based UMF Corporation and the hospitals' specialized healthcare laundry -- Logan's Healthcare Linen and Uniform Rental of Shelbyville, KY.

UMF Corporation is a long-time advocate of multimodal intervention to prevent HAIs. It is the developer of the nationally recognized PerfectCLEAN® Operating Room Processing & Checklist System, which recently was awarded the AORN Seal of Recognition by the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) for the fourth consecutive year. The AORN Seal of Recognition confirms that the content of the program has undergone thorough review by AORN and meets the guidelines of the "AORN Guidelines for Perioperative Practice." While not an endorsement, the Seal of Recognition is confirmation that the PerfectCLEAN Operating Room education materials meet AORN's guidelines for excellence in providing a safe patient environment.

As part of the PerfectCLEAN OR program, respective hospital ES staff responsible for OR processing receive intensive training provided by UMF Corporation, where team members learn best practices for how rooms are processed to ensure OR readiness for emergency surgery, or prior to any kind of surgery, between all surgeries, and at the end of every day.

As part of the training, the ES teams also learn how to use PerfectCLEAN-branded, high performance micro-denier products. These products are provided by -- and processed by -- Logan's, the healthcare launderer.

"This teaming of ES staff, Logan's and UMF Corporation has been called 'a processing trifecta'" said George Clarke, UMF Corporation CEO. "We're gratified to be included. And we salute the multidisciplinary approach taken by these hospitals."
