Kentucky's Baptist Healthcare Optimizes ED Safety, Revenue and Enterprise Data Exchange With T-System

T SystemEV's Clinical Integration Abilities Supports a Connected Healthcare System to Demonstrate Meaningful Use

DALLAS, TX--(Marketwire - April 4, 2011) - Baptist Healthcare System, Inc. in Louisville, Ky., has selected T SystemEV®, the industry's leading emergency department information system, for use in all five of its acute-care hospitals' EDs to improve safety and quality of patient care, increase efficiencies, and optimize reimbursement. Kentucky's largest not-for-profit healthcare system will use the ONC-ATCB-certified solution from T-System, Inc. to integrate and exchange ED clinical data enterprise-wide and as a part of meeting Meaningful Use criteria to qualify for government incentives.

"We wanted an intuitive ED system that all clinicians would like and use immediately and that would promote safety for our nearly 1.6 million patients," said Jackie Lucas, chief information officer, Baptist Healthcare System, Inc. "Since three of our hospitals had already used T-Sheets for years, we were confident the transition to T SystemEV would be an easy and fast deployment. We also recognized the value of T-System's specialized ED functionality to move us forward in creating an integrated healthcare delivery system to meet Stage 1 Meaningful Use requirements and compliance goals."

Baptist Healthcare will implement the complete solution, including patient tracking, physician and nurse documentation, and computerized provider order entry (CPOE). It will rely on T SystemEV's rapid deployment ability in its aggressive plans to roll out the system to one hospital a month. On average, the roll out process takes 12 to 16 weeks to fully implement the solution.

Because Baptist Healthcare understood the different needs of their EDs and the financial and clinical impact of ED systems, it chose a robust best-of-breed solution over their current enterprise application. It plans to leverage T SystemEV to increase ED revenues through improved charge capture, more complete documentation and better throughput. In addition, by prompting ED nurses and physicians to supply missing documentation and providing decision support, the solution will enhance patient safety and help the health system maintain regulatory compliance.

"We are thrilled that Baptist Healthcare, a healthcare leader passionate about enhancing its community's health, is extending its partnership with T-System," said Sunny Sanyal, chief executive officer, T-System, Inc. "With the number of already overburdened EDs and predictions about sharp increases in the use of emergency care, it is vital to leverage technology that can not only integrate with other applications and share data across the health system, but also optimize ED productivity and patient care quality. Baptist Healthcare's continued support of T-System is testament to the value that our solutions bring to emergency medicine."
