Keynote Speaker and Final Agenda Announced for Leaders in Biobanking Congress 2016

Experts from NIH, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and More Explore How Biobanks Facilitate Personalized Medicine

NEEDHAM, MA--(Marketwired - May 31, 2016) -  Cambridge Healthtech Institute (CHI), a division of Cambridge Innovation Institute, announced the speaker lineup and final agenda for the 8th International Leaders in Biobanking Congress: Applying Biospecimen Science to Advance Biomedical Research and Patient Care, taking place September 7-9, 2016 in Baltimore, MD. Co-hosted with Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, this meeting addresses biospecimen science, management, and applications, bringing together biomedical and biopharmaceutical researchers, regulators, biorepository managers and practitioners to investigate the best strategies for effective use of biospecimens within today's cutting-edge biomedical research.

The Keynote Presentation features Eric Dishman, Director of Precision Medicine Initiative Cohort Program with the, National Institutes of Health. Dishman leads this $130 million Presidential Initiative that will assemble a transformative national research cohort of 1 million or more volunteers, reflecting the rich diversity of America. He also brings the patient experience to the heart of innovation and science. After battling a rare form of kidney cancer for 23 years -- and advocating personally for more than 1,000 other cancer patients along the way -- he became cancer-free thanks to early access to precision medicine that clarified the right treatment plan for him.

Eric Dishman will join leaders in biobanking from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, The Jackson Laboratory, Merck & Co., Bristol-Myers Squibb and many more who look forward to sharing their knowledge, best practices, and expertise with all attendees. They will explore how biobanks facilitate personalized medicine through case study co-presentations on biobanker and R&D partnerships, research applications to circulating genomic material, and fit-for-purpose biospecimens and biomarkers from biobanks.

This unique event invites attendees to a laboratory tour at Johns Hopkins Biological Repository following the keynote presentation. Attendees are also able to choose between two short courses, one titled, "Managing a Viable Biobank", which provides continuing education credit for full participation and the second, titled, "Tools for Extracting, Amplifying and Detecting Minute Amounts of Circulating Nucleic Acids."
