Online Voting Now Open to the Public at; Winners to Receive a Free Kickfire Data Warehouse Appliance

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - November 18, 2009) - Following the evaluation by a panel of high-profile expert judges, Kickfire™, Inc. today announced that Discovery Solutions, Handmark, and Globalpark were selected as the top 3 organizations demonstrating the most compelling stories of 'data warehouse pain.' To view YouTube video submissions from each finalist and to vote to select the final two winners that will receive a free Kickfire data warehouse appliance, Kickfire invites the industry to log onto

"The overwhelming number of entries we received is a clear indicator of how data volumes have continued to explode, yet mainstream and affordable data warehousing solutions have hit the wall on performance," said Bruce Armstrong, CEO of Kickfire. "Furthermore, this is an industry-wide problem as evidenced by the entries we received ranging from small start-ups to large established organizations such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Facebook and NASA."

The deadline to place a vote for the final two winners is December 1st at 5pm. The final winner selected by the public will receive a free Kickfire data warehouse appliance, which affordably delivers the high-performance capabilities of large commercial database systems for solving many of today's data warehouse challenges. The appliance has held the Transaction Processing Performance Council's (TPC-H) number one spot for price/performance since 2008, smashing the dollar barrier for the first time since the TPC-H benchmarks were instituted.

The Judging Process

The selection process to determine the three finalists involved an expert panel of judges that are well-known in the data warehousing world. These judges included Curt Monash, founder of Monash Research ( and publisher of DBMS2; Joy Mundy, principal at the Kimball Group (; Peter Zaitsev, founder and chief executive officer of Percona (; and Robin Schumacher, director of product management, Sun Microsystems™ (

"As we went through the contest entries in detail, it was readily apparent that today's data warehousing solutions are either massively expensive or non-existent," said Curt Monash, Founder of Monash Research. "Clearly, there is major dual-market opportunity for a product such as the Kickfire appliance that can not only provide an affordable data warehousing solution to small companies; but can also target larger companies that have made an initial investment in high-end solutions, yet still need to add some affordable query processing power in other areas of the organization."
