Kiddie Academy Launches National Health and Fitness Initiative

Educational Childcare Company Collaborates With Let's Move! to Promote Healthy Lifestyles for Children

BALTIMORE, MD--(Marketwire - Nov 19, 2012) - Kiddie Academy locations nationwide have received certification as participants in the "Let's Move! Child Care" initiative -- a public statement of Kiddie Academy's system-wide commitment to a healthier future for children.

Health and fitness are integral parts of Kiddie Academy's Life Essentials® philosophy, which addresses the importance of keeping children fit and healthy by ensuring children's daily routines meet and exceed the recommendations of leading national health and fitness organizations.

"The health of the children in our care is a top priority, as is the development of healthy habits. We want children to learn about eating right, integrating exercise and maintaining healthy personal habits," said Kevin Murphy, vice president of operations for Kiddie Academy. "To be able to say our academies have received the seal of approval from the Let's Move! Child Care program not only validates the exceptional health and fitness programs within Kiddie Academy, but it acts as a statement to Kiddie Academy's commitment to a healthier future for our children."

According to Murphy, the health and fitness pillar within Life Essentials and the recognition from Let's Move! distinguishes Kiddie Academy as a leader in this endeavor within the childcare industry.

On the physical fitness front, daily schedules ensure children 3 years and older spend at least two hours each day participating in physical activities that reinforce the weekly educational theme in the classroom. In addition, a focus has been placed on physical activities that are integrated into the classroom routines and that correlate with Kiddie Academy's proprietary curriculum.

Health-wise, Kiddie Academy's menus have been reviewed by a licensed nutrition consultant and updated to meet the new national standards.

According to Murphy, Kiddie Academy wants to emphasize these healthy practices even after children have left the academy. "Through parent letters and posted lesson plans, we help parents understand and reinforce the healthy lessons learned during the day, including hand washing, healthy habits and the importance of physical fitness."
