Kids Avenue Challenges Children to "Write On!"

Kids Avenue Magazine Announces Its First Writing Contest and Offers a Free 10-Page Guide for Parents Entitled, "Write On!"

MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- (MARKET WIRE) -- February 15, 2007 -- Kids Avenue, a recipient of the 2007 Best Products iParenting Media Award, is announcing its first writing contest. Kids Avenue, founded in 2004, is a literacy-based magazine written in English.

Kids Avenue's writing contest was created to encourage young children to write. "Writing, for most children, is seen as a difficult task. It is a much harder skill to learn than reading or listening; unfortunately, less time is generally given to teaching it. Kids seem to either cringe or stare with blank eyes when assigned a writing task," says Kids Avenue's editor, Darren Augustine. "Writing is often difficult because children haven't learned the steps they need to use when planning what they are going to write.

"There is a systematic way to teach writing, though. There are steps children can follow to be successful. Our free guide for parents entitled 'Write On!' highlights five pre-writing exercises that can be used to help young writers start and plan their stories. Without these steps to get started, many children feel at a loss from the beginning to the end of the writing process."

The guide, as well as the writing contest guidelines, is available at www.kidsavenueonline.com under the "Writing Contest" heading.

Kids Avenue's Writing Contest deadline is May 1, 2007. The winner will be announced online June 1, 2007. Kids Avenue is accepting any fictional story: mystery, science fiction, humorous, adventure, etc. Stories must be under 1500 words in length. There are no entrance fees or further obligations. This contest is open to students ages 8-14 worldwide.

The top prize of the contest is an iPod Shuffle.

Kids Avenue is based in Istanbul, Turkey and Minneapolis, MN. The magazine's mission is to create an innovative, high interest magazine for today's international students.
