WHY:
Join a select group of twenty 4th and 5th grade students in the Garden to Table pilot program at the University of Texas at Austin for a hand-on cooking class. At the school, students will harvest seasonal produce with White House pastry chef, Bill Yosses. The harvest will be transported to the Culinary Center at the Whole Foods Market® flagship store, where the students prepare a meal. The event is presented in conjunction with the International Association of Culinary Professionals, IACP, as part of its annual conference.

IACP members will perform a variety of tasks with students and their families to help prepare the meal. Small groups will take a shopping tour through the market, where they will collect the ingredients needed for the meal. Others will wash the produce that was picked in the garden, while still others will begin ingredient preparation. The University will provide bus transportation from the farm to Whole Foods Market®. Student prizes and all cookware for the class is provided by Le Creuset of America, the world's leading manufacturer of enameled cast iron cookware.
