Kids Kicking Cancer aids children suffering with Cancer to help control the stress and pain caused by their treatments via personalized training taught by Certified Black Belt Martial Artists. This technique helps the kids experience peace, power and purpose by sharing their deep breathing methods with other kids and to help them lower their stress. Kids Kicking Cancer was featured on Good Morning America. The Journal of The American Society of Hematology conducted a study, and reported that: "Martial Arts can provide a useful modality to decrease pain in childhood cancer. This can improve patient compliance with respect to medical and surgical management thus reducing disease morbidity and healthcare costs," which really shows the credibility of their program.
"Spirits For A Cause is the first of a multi-event awareness and fundraising campaign that we are happy and proud to be behind." ~ Darryl Kaplan
The routines of the Martial Arts are employed to empower kids with life threatening disorders to heal physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Weekly classes are held at clinics, hospitals, and even at the kids' homes that teach traditional Karate moves along with techniques of meditation, breathing, relaxation, and visualization to reduce pain levels in a big way. Kids Kicking Cancer was created fifteen years ago by a Black Belt Rabbi and Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics.
Kids Kicking Cancer won the United States highest award in Community Public Health, The Robert Wood Johnson Community Health Leaders Award in Washington, D.C.
