Killarney Man Charged With Eight Counts Under the Ontario SPCA Act

Ontario SPCA Removes 65 Dogs from His Care

KILLARNEY, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 11, 2013) - The Ontario SPCA has charged a Killarney man with eight counts under the Ontario SPCA Act after having to remove 65 dogs from his care.

The Ontario SPCA received a call from a concerned citizen regarding multiple dogs living on a Killarney property. The Ontario SPCA responded and conducted a full investigation. On Dec 17, 2012 a warrant was executed and upon veterinarian recommendation, 65 Weirmaraner/Labrador Retriever type dogs, of all ages, were removed from the Killarney property. The dogs were transported to an Ontario SPCA facility where they stayed until they were later surrendered to the Society. The dogs have since been transferred to Ontario SPCA Adoption Centers across the province and when ready will be placed up for adoption.

The Killarney resident was charged with one count of causing an animal to be in distress and seven counts for failing to comply with standards of care as outlined under the Ontario SPCA Act.

His first court appearance will be March 2013.

"Responsible pet ownership is everyone's responsibility," says Senior Inspector Lynn Michaud, Ontario SPCA.
