King & Spalding Deepens Litigation Bench With Addition of Product Liability Litigator Alexander Calfo

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - August 17, 2015) - King & Spalding announced today that prominent Los Angeles trial lawyer Alexander G. Calfo joined the firm's more than 450-lawyer strong litigation department as partner. Calfo, who is known for trying high-profile product liability matters in the pharmaceutical and medical device, automotive, manufacturing and chemical industries, joins King & Spalding from Barnes & Thornburg, where he was a partner.

Calfo, who serves as lead trial lawyer, both as regional and national counsel, for several Fortune 100 companies in multi-district litigation and statewide coordinated proceedings, will be based in Los Angeles. Two additional lawyers, Julia Romano and Stacy Foster, will join Calfo at the end of the month.

"Alex's practice is a perfect match for the work we have been doing in California, including in L.A. for the last four years, particularly in the life sciences, product liability and tort and environmental practice groups," said Andy Bayman, co-chair of the firm's Life Sciences and Healthcare practice. "We welcome Alex and members of his team to the firm."

With multiple awards and accolades to his name, Calfo is considered one of Los Angeles's top trial lawyers. His successful verdicts have been featured on the front page of media outlets across the country, including the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post and National Law Journal. In 2011-2012, Calfo served as lead trial counsel for clients who were awarded four of the top 10 winning verdicts for the entire State of California.

"Alex brings extensive, marquee trial experience at the national level, which will further enhance the brand we have worked hard to develop in California as a franchise of choice for our clients who operate in the region," said Carol Wood, head of the firm's Tort and Environmental practice group. "His accomplishments have been widely reported in the press and he is well known throughout the bench and bar."

One recent example of Calfo's trial skills was in 2014, when he co-tried the first case in the DePuy Pinnacle MDL litigation in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, and won a complete defense jury verdict.

"King & Spalding has a great reputation as a powerhouse litigation firm with a big-name client base, strong management and an entrepreneurial and collaborative culture," said Calfo. "I consider it a fantastic opportunity to be a part of this firm."

Calfo earned his B.A. from Marquette University and his J.D. from Creighton University School of Law. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and was named to the Outstanding Lawyers of America Society.
