King & Spalding Expands Foreign Corrupt Practices Act Team With Recruitment of DOJ Prosecutor Jason A. Jones

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - January 20, 2015) - King & Spalding has recruited federal prosecutor Jason A. Jones as a partner in its Washington, D.C., office, continuing the expansion of its Special Matters and Government Investigations practice, which has added seven new partners in the past 24 months. Jones returns to King & Spalding from the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice, where he served as Assistant Chief of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act unit in the Fraud Section. He also served as senior counsel to the Assistant Attorney General of the Criminal Division.

"We are pleased to welcome Jason back to the firm," said Christopher A. Wray, leader of King & Spalding's Special Matters and Government Investigations practice. "Jason is well-known by many lawyers in the firm -- and highly respected. His FCPA oversight experience at a national level and his strong trial skills provide added bench strength to the broad range of defense work we offer our clients. Jason is a natural fit for our team."

As a supervisor in the Justice Department's FCPA unit, Jones oversaw investigations and prosecutions of corporations and their employees for making improper payments to foreign officials in business transactions. He is well versed in the Justice Department's increasing enforcement in this area.

Previously, as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and Chief of the Violent Crimes and Terrorism Section of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn, Jones gained extensive courtroom experience. In addition, he supervised federal criminal cases involving insider trading, securities fraud, mail and wire fraud, money laundering, obstruction of justice and tax evasion. He also was a member of President Obama's Guantanamo Bay Review Task Force.

Jones was an associate at King & Spalding from 2002 to 2005, leaving to join the U.S. Attorney's Office in Brooklyn. He received an A.B. degree from Dartmouth College and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from Cornell Law School.

"I'm thrilled to be coming home to King & Spalding," said Jones. "I chose to rejoin King & Spalding because I respect the firm's many talented lawyers and appreciate the firm's dual emphasis on high performance and collegiality. I look forward to contributing to the growth of the government investigations practice, especially in the national and international realm of FCPA matters."

Jones is the seventh partner King & Spalding added to its FCPA, securities enforcement and white-collar criminal defense team across three offices in the past 24 months. Lateral hires include Gary Grindler (Washington), Robert Hur (Washington), Dixie Johnson (Washington), William Johnson (New York) and Carmen Lawrence (New York). Brandt Leibe (Houston) was promoted to partner.
