King & Spalding Launches International Trade Blog Focusing on China Subsidy Programs

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - September 07, 2016) - King & Spalding announces today the launch of its China Subsidy Exchange, an online forum with commentary and analysis on issues for manufacturing industry executives, government officials, and international trade lawyers with a focus on China subsidies and related developments. The blog will focus on:

  • China Subsidies where the firm's trade group has decades of experience in identifying China's national, provincial, and local subsidies and developing legal and political strategies for remedying the adverse impact of these subsidies on domestic industries. Chinese subsidies cover a wide range of programs, including grants, tax incentives, financing, provision of goods and services, Five-Year Plans, and industrial planning directives.
  • Domestic Findings where the firm is a leader in the use of trade remedies and other instruments to remedy the injury caused by China's national, provincial, and local subsidies. For example, the firm's international trade practice changed U.S. policy to apply the countervailing duty law to China. The firm's experience includes domestic countervailing duty (anti-subsidy) investigations in the United States, the EU, and other jurisdictions.
  • WTO Developments where King & Spalding advises governments, industries, and clients in WTO dispute settlement proceedings and related market access strategies. WTO rules and jurisprudence provide insight into the application of subsidies disciplines to China. The questions over China's non-market economy status in antidumping proceedings will also impact whether domestic industries increasingly rely on countervailing duty (anti-subsidy) cases against China.
  • Industries where, given the wide diversity of trade remedy, dispute settlement, and market access matters on which it works, King & Spalding's international trade group has in-depth expertise across a broad range of industries, including steel, aluminum, chemicals, semiconductors, consumer products, high technology, agriculture, and other sectors.

The China Subsidy Exchange will supplement King & Spalding's U.S. Trade and Manufacturing Alert which includes contributions from more than 40 international trade lawyers, foreign legal consultants, economists, and other professionals in the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East -- one of the broadest and deepest benches of trade professionals in the world.
