King & Spalding Names Tim Scott and Fritz Zimmer Managing Partners of Its West Coast Offices

REDWOOD SHORES, CA and SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - November 3, 2009) - King & Spalding announced today the appointment of new managing partners at its two California-based offices, Timothy T. Scott in Silicon Valley and Donald F. "Fritz" Zimmer, Jr., in San Francisco. Courtland L. Reichman, who established the offices in February and April 2008, respectively, and whose two-year term as head of those offices has expired, will continue in his role as chair of King & Spalding's global intellectual property practice group. He is resident in the firm's Silicon Valley office.

"Our California offices have grown to over 35 lawyers and patent agents, making us one of the fastest-growing law firms in the Bay area," said Robert D. Hays, Jr., chairman of King & Spalding. "The offices have expanded to include a diverse set of practices: intellectual property, mass tort litigation, FDA regulatory matters, securities litigation, energy, corporate, commercial litigation and real estate capital markets. The firm is grateful to Courtland, who had agreed to take on the leadership of our California operations for an initial two-year period, and I thank him for his energy, commitment and steady service. I also congratulate Tim and Fritz on their new assignments. The firm looks forward to the contributions they will make as office managing partners."

Scott, a seasoned litigator, has practiced law in Silicon Valley for nearly two-thirds of his 24-year legal career. He joined King & Spalding in October 2008 from Sidley Austin LLP, where he was a partner and the chair of its litigation practice group in San Francisco. Scott concentrates on securities litigation and other complex business litigation, including consumer class actions and large contract and other business disputes. In the life sciences area, Scott focuses on the litigation and arbitration of collaboration agreements and joint ventures, licensing disputes, distribution and supply agreements, qui tam actions, class actions and issues related to off-label promotion. He received a J.D., cum laude, from The University of Chicago Law School, and a B.A. from Stanford University.

Zimmer, also a veteran Bay-area litigator with 26 years of experience, focuses primarily on pharmaceutical and medical device product liability litigation and handles toxic tort, commercial and employment litigation cases. Zimmer has served as national, regional and trial counsel for a number of pharmaceutical companies in mass tort litigation and serves on the board of directors of the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) and is an active participant in the Defense Research Institute (DRI). He joined King & Spalding in April 2008 from Drinker Biddle LLP, where he was a partner and vice chairman of the firm's products liability group. Zimmer received a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and is a graduate of the University of California at Riverside.
