King & Spalding Recruits Alternative Investments Partner Drew G.L. Chapman

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - May 19, 2014) - King & Spalding has recruited Drew G.L. Chapman as a partner in the financial institutions practice in its New York office. Chapman joins King & Spalding from WilmerHale, where he was head of the alternative investment group. Chapman is the seventh financial institutions partner the firm has added in the past eight months.

"Drew is an accomplished hedge fund and alternative investments lawyer, and we are fortunate he has chosen to join our growing team," said Sarah R. Borders, leader of King & Spalding's capital transactions and real estate practice. "He provides a strong complement to our existing practice, especially with its expanding funds focus on public and private investment vehicles."

Chapman focuses on complex business transactions for hedge funds and other alternative investment, asset management and financial services firms, as well as acting as sponsor counsel in the formation and operation of hedge funds, private equity funds, credit and distressed funds and real estate funds. He also counsels clients on crucial and complex policy, governance and regulatory issues, investigations and enforcement matters, litigation and adversarial situations as well as on transactions of all types, including mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, spin offs and spin outs, secondary transactions and restructurings. Chapman received his LL.M. degree from Fordham University School of Law and an LL.B. degree from Bond University, Queensland, Australia.

King & Spalding increased its global financial institutions team with seven new partners since September 2013. In addition to Chapman, they are Zaid Al-Farisi (Dubai, May 2014), Werner Meier (Frankfurt, April 2014), Ellen Snare (New York, March 2014), Maya Melnikas (Moscow, November 2013), Matthew Bromberg (New York, October 2013) and Angela Hayes (London, September 2013).

"King & Spalding's increasing focus on funds and alternative asset managers and its strong finance practice made this the right move for me," said Chapman. "I am excited about the firm's announced commitment to continued investing in these areas, and look forward to making significant contributions to the practice and the firm."

King & Spalding's financial institutions practice is comprised of more than 100 lawyers worldwide with expertise in complex financings, private equity, fund formation, litigation, investigations, Islamic finance, real estate capital markets, tax and regulatory matters.
